Want to visit Swakopmund in February? Here’s what you need to know.
February brings temperatures around 23°C (73°F) during the day.The ocean water warms up a tiny bit to 18°C (64°F), but it’s still cold. Swimming is not comfortable. The water stays cold all year.
Is February Busy?
February is still busy but less crowded than January. Most visitors come because Swakopmund is cooler than the hot inland areas. You’ll find fewer people than December and January. Hotels cost a bit less too.
Weather in February
February is the rainiest month with about 5 days of rain. Don’t worry – the rain is light and quick. You still get around 6 hours of sunshine daily. The air feels sticky because humidity is high.
Things You Can Do
All activities work great in February:
- Quad biking on sand dunes
- Sandboarding down big dunes
- Skydiving over the desert
- Desert tours to see plants and animals
- Baby seals at Cape Cross (they’re still there)
- Visit Moon Landscape
- Walk around town to see German buildings
Good Things About February
The heat and humidity is less than January. Tours are easier to book. You don’t need to plan months ahead. Restaurants have more open tables. Everything feels less rushed.
Should You Visit?
February is better than January if you want fewer crowds. You’ll save money on hotels. Activities are less packed. The weather is almost the same as January.
But if you want the best time, pick May to October. Way cheaper. Way less crowded. Better weather too. Swakopmund in March is also calmer than February, though still part of the summer season.
My Real Answer
Go to Swakopmund in February if you’re already in Namibia during this time. It’s good but not great. Still busy. Still costs more than other months. The weather is nice. Things are fun. But it’s not the best month to visit.
February works fine. Just know you’re paying extra to visit during summer when lots of other people are there too.
