Desert Breeze Lodge

Desert Breeze Lodge

Planning a trip to Namibia? Let me tell you about a place that surprised me. Desert Breeze Lodge sits just outside Swakopmund, about 3.2 km from the busy town center. You wake up to golden sand dunes right outside your window. It’s peaceful but close enough to everything.

Getting There

When you fly into Namibia, you’ll land at Walvis Bay Airport. From there, it’s about 45 minutes to reach the lodge. The Swakopmund Airport is even closer, just a seven-minute drive away. This makes getting to Desert Breeze very easy for travelers..

The Rooms

The lodge has 12 luxury bungalows and one beautiful three-bedroom villa. Each bungalow comes with its own private balcony. From your balcony, you can see the stunning desert landscape spread out before you.

Inside each room, you’ll find a cozy fireplace. This is perfect for cold desert nights when temperatures drop. The rooms also have a minibar, coffee and tea making facilities, and a digital safe for your valuables. Free WiFi is available throughout the property so you can stay connected.

The bathrooms are modern and include showers with hot and cold water. Each room is decorated differently, giving it a unique feel. The beds are comfortable and positioned to make the most of those desert views.

The three-bedroom villa is great for families or groups. It has a fully equipped kitchen, a spacious living area with TV, and its own braai area. This is where you can enjoy a traditional barbecue while looking at the desert.

Breakfast Views

Many guests say Desert Breeze has one of the best breakfast views in all of Namibia. Every morning, fresh breakfast is served on the deck or in the indoor dining area. You can choose where you want to eat based on the weather.

The breakfast spread includes a good variety of options. You can enjoy your meal while watching the sun rise over the dunes. It’s a peaceful way to start your day before heading out for activities.

The lodge doesn’t serve lunch or dinner. But this isn’t a problem at all. Swakopmund town is just minutes away and has many excellent restaurants. The friendly staff at reception can help you book tables at the best spots in town.

Activities Around Swakopmund

Swakopmund is Namibia’s adventure capital. There’s a lot to try if you’re into that.

For water lovers, you can go on a dolphin cruise from nearby Walvis Bay. Seal kayaking is another popular choice. You paddle out into the water and Cape fur seals swim right up to your kayak. It’s an amazing experience you won’t forget.

If you like heights, try skydiving over the Namib Desert. The views from above are incredible. Paragliding is another option that lets you soar over the dunes.

For land adventures, quad biking through the desert is very popular. You can also try sandboarding down the massive dunes. It’s like snowboarding but on sand.

Sandwich Harbour is a must-see spot about 50 km south of Swakopmund. Here, massive sand dunes meet the Atlantic Ocean. You’ll need a 4×4 vehicle to get there, but guided tours are available.

Cape Cross Nature Reserve has the largest colony of Cape fur seals in the world. During breeding season from January to March, you can see thousands of seal cubs. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon.

The Living Desert Tour shows you the small creatures that live in the Namib. You’ll see chameleons, lizards, and other animals that have adapted to desert life.

Practical Information

Check-in time is from 2:00 PM and check-out is at 11:00 AM. The lodge offers secure parking for guests with cars. Laundry service is available if you need it.

Children of all ages are welcome at Desert Breeze. However, there are no special facilities like cots or highchairs. The lodge has some steep drops and balconies, so it’s better suited for older kids who can be careful around heights.

For families, the villa is a great option. Children 12 and under pay 50% of the adult rate when sharing with two adults. Children 13 and older pay the full adult rate.

Why Choose Desert Breeze Lodge

This lodge offers something different from typical Swakopmund hotels. Instead of staying in the town center, you get a desert experience while keeping town amenities nearby. You feel like you’re in the middle of the Namib even though civilization is just minutes away.

The views alone make it worth staying here. Waking up to see the sun light up the dunes is magical. At night, you can watch the desert sky fill with stars.

The combination of great design, comfortable rooms, helpful staff, and that amazing location makes Desert Breeze special. It’s not just a place to sleep. It’s part of your Namibia.

Want to know about other options? Rossmund Lodge Swakopmund is known for having one of only five desert golf courses in the world. The place has a pool which is nice on hot days.

Villa Margherita Swakopmund has its own restaurant that only guests can use. They focus on local ingredients. Smoked salmon, oryx, homemade pasta. Small menu but everything is fresh. They offer massages at the property too..
