May to October are the best months to visit Swakopmund because the weather is dry and pleasant, and wildlife viewing is excellent. September and October are especially good for seeing animals and enjoying clear skies, although these months are also warmer and attract more tourists. The summer months from November to April are hotter, more humid, and sometimes rainy, but they offer great opportunities for birdwatching and spotting flamingos.
May and June are ideal for balanced conditions, with comfortable weather and fewer crowds. July and August are also good months for wildlife viewing and desert activities, but mornings and evenings can be cold.
September and October bring higher temperatures and more visitors, yet they remain some of the best months for seeing wildlife, as animals gather around waterholes. The skies are usually clear, and the days are dry and warm.
November marks the beginning of the rainy season and the start of the “Green Season,” when prices may be lower. December to February are the wettest and most humid months, but they are perfect for watching birds and flamingos along the coast.
While the desert climate can be harsh, with warm days and cold nights during winter, the coast stays cool throughout the year. The dry winter months from May to October are ideal for game viewing in inland parks like Etosha, as animals gather near water sources.
Warm clothing is recommended, especially for mornings and evenings in desert areas. Safari season peaks in September and October when temperatures rise and wildlife sightings are frequent, but this is also when tourist numbers are highest.
May and June offer a great balance of good weather, clear visibility, and fewer crowds, making them excellent months for wildlife viewing and travel in Swakopmund.
