This 7-day Namibia self drive safari takes you through some of the country’s best destinations along the Namib Desert. The route covers the Kalahari, Sossusvlei, and Swakopmund, offering a short but rewarding escape into Namibia’s beauty and adventure.
Day 1: Hosea Kutako International Airport to Kalahari
Welcome to Namibia! Upon arrival at Hosea Kutako International Airport, our representative will meet you, hand over your welcome pack, and explain your safari plan for the next seven days. You will be guided through the vehicle rental process and given all the necessary information before collecting your car.
After getting your vehicle, drive to your first destination – the Kalahari Desert, a region known for its wide landscapes and interesting wildlife. Spend the day hiking and spotting some of Namibia’s native animals, including cheetahs.
Later, join a Bushmen walk to learn about the San people and their traditional way of life. You will see demonstrations of their ancient survival skills and customs.
Day 2: Namib Naukluft Park (Sossusvlei)
After breakfast, start your journey from the Kalahari to Sossusvlei, located in the heart of the Namib Naukluft Park. This area is known for its tall sand dunes and endless desert views.
You will stay at Hoodia Desert Lodge, a peaceful retreat surrounded by desert scenery. Relax on your private veranda and enjoy the calm desert atmosphere.
In the afternoon, you may take a nature drive with the lodge guide at an extra cost or relax at your leisure.
Day 3: Namib Naukluft Park (Sossusvlei)
After an early breakfast, drive yourself or join a guided tour to explore Sossusvlei. Arrive before sunrise to watch the dunes change colors with the morning light. Climb Big Daddy Dune or Dune 45 for amazing views, then visit Deadvlei, a clay pan with ancient camel thorn trees.
On your way back, stop at Sesriem Canyon, a narrow gorge formed millions of years ago. Spend the rest of the day relaxing at your lodge and enjoying the peaceful desert setting.
Days 4–5: Namib Naukluft Park to the Coast
After breakfast, continue your self drive adventure to the coast and arrive in the seaside town of Swakopmund. You will spend two nights here, enjoying both cultural and outdoor experiences.
Check in at Atlantic Garden Boutique Hotel, known for its comfort and modern style. Swakopmund combines German colonial charm with a lively coastal atmosphere.
During your stay, you can enjoy many optional activities such as dolphin and seal cruises, kayaking, deep-sea fishing, or a Sandwich Harbour tour. For those who enjoy adventure, try sandboarding or quad biking on the nearby desert dunes.
Day 6: Coast to Erongo Mountain Area
After breakfast, you can still take part in a morning activity or spend some time exploring Swakopmund before heading to Hohenstein Lodge, located at the foot of the Erongo Mountains.
In the evening, enjoy a peaceful sunset as the mountain glows red under the setting sun. From here, you can see Spitzkoppe rising from the plains in the distance. The lodge is a great base for short hikes, nature walks, and day trips to nearby attractions.
Day 7: Departure
After your final night at Hohenstein Lodge, drive back to Windhoek in time for your flight. One of our representatives will meet you in Windhoek or at the airport to assist with returning your rental vehicle.
